In the 2004-2005 school year, the San Diego Unified School District's Educational Technology Department implemented Phase One of the Enhancing Science Education Through Technology program in two middle schools. To date, we have implemented five phases and have reached 16 middle schools. We are currently implementing Phase Six and adding students in grades 4-8 at 12 additional schools bringing the total number of schools to 28. The ESETT program provides professional development for approximately 179 teachers and impacts approximately 20,000 students.
The ESETT program is built upon three components:
- integrating technology into inquiry-based activities that address state and national science content standards;
- research-based professional development program;
- providing the technology needed to allow students to create and present inquiry-based science activities based on state science standards.
